Weiss Lake Crappie Report for week of March 30 - April 5.
This week’s Weiss Lake report comes waiting on a storm front to move into the Weiss Lake area on Tuesday afternoon, so we are really catching them before it hits. Thank goodness the cold front from this past weekend is heading out of the area as it made for a few challenging mornings. Luckily, the cold weekend affected the Crappie very little. Crappie are still in the main river and the big creeks, although they have pulled out a little deeper we are still having a lot of suc
Giant on Weiss Lake
I’ve always said every time you go on the water you never know what might happen. Just ask Professional Angler and Guide Lee Pitts. “I’ve been guiding on Weiss Lake for over 15 years and to catch a 31 pound Stripe on a crappie rig with 6 lb. test has been one of the most interesting days I have encountered.” Lee was guiding some clients on a normal March day, they had been catching some really good size crappie that morning but as the day went on the bite turned off. “The cra
Big One's are Biting
This week’s fishing report from Weiss Lake is a good one. Although we have still had some rain the weather has been clearer and warmer. With water surface temperatures heading into the lower 60’s the crappie are beginning to stack up in the mouths of major creeks. But, you may still have to cover a lot of water in order to get that limit with crappie still holding in about 18 to 20 feet of water. The early mornings have really been successful times this week with a late morni
It's Picking Up!
It has been so beautiful here on Weiss Lake this week I have not had a chance to finish this week’s fishing report until today, sorry about that. My clients have had some awesome success this past weekend and early this week and the fishing is really picking up. Water temperature is really heating up, it has been anywhere from 57 to 59 degrees in the upper water table. With the rising temperature the crappie will be heading to spawn, but here on Weiss Lake the majority of the
Article from The Huntsville Times with Lee Pitts on shooting docks.
They shoot docks, don't they? Crappie fishing made easy. By Frank Sargeant, The Huntsville Times
on November 20, 2011 at 7:25 PM [email protected] Lee Pitts likes to shoot fish in a barrel. Well, not exactly, but the amiable guide says that shooting docks in fall and winter comes very close. "You know the fish are under there, and all you've got to do is get the lure to them," says Pitts as he fires a tiny, inch-long Bobby Garland jig 20 feet under a low-hung Neely
Catching Limits
Weiss Lake Crappie Fishing Report March 9, 2015 Well, for once the weather man was right and we had some decent weather over the weekend on Weiss Lake. So good in fact that my clients each caught a limit of some good size slabs. (See picture) Right now on Weiss the water temperature is still on the cool side with temperatures reaching the upper 40’s. The crappie are hanging tight in 12 to 14 feet of water, and what I’m doing is dragging a double 1/24th ounce Bobby Garland M0-
Snow and Ice
Weiss Lake - Alabama Lee Pitts - Weiss Lake Guide Needless to say the weather in Central Alabama the last week has been in one word, awful. So says Weiss Lake Guide Lee Pitts. With bitter cold plus wind it makes the fishing this time of year tough. Last week we had 6 inches of snow and ice which made being on the water next to impossible, but the weather turned for the better over the weekend and Lake Guntersville turned out some nice fish for the tournament there. The week
